All Rules are subject to change at the discretion of the Staff of Naruto - Warring States (NWS).

All members are expected to uphold these rules at all times. Any issues regarding these rules may be taken up with any member of the Staff and will be dealt with promptly.

General Site Rules

English Language Only

NWS is an English, literary role playing site. While the need/want for a character to speak in a language other than English may arise, we encourage you to portray this in one of two ways:
Example: Thomas replied to his friend in German, "I love you."
- For this example, the writer has typed in English while stating that the character spoke in German.

Example: Thomas replied to his friend, "Ich liebe dich."
- For this example, the writer has typed in German and must translate the foreign speech into English at the bottom of the page, using OOC tags.

No L33t Speak

NWS is a full literary role playing site. This means that for In-Character (IC) posts, only grammatically correct English is accepted. No L33t Speak, short-hand, text-hand, or any other form of shortening will be accepted for IC posts. Those partaking in these acts will be forced to edit and/or delete their posts.
- Some moderate short-hand will be accepted for Out-of-Character (OOC) posts but is highly frowned upon. Here at NWS you are encouraged to write correctly at all times.

No Inappropriate Conduct

Members of NWS will conduct themselves in a polite and courteous manner toward fellow members and Staff. This forum is a role playing community. As such, direct and blatant rudeness or other inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. All members are encouraged to be friendly toward one another, but are required to be decent and respectful to one another.

Moderate cursing

Cursing should be kept to a bare minimum when used in OOC settings and posts. Cursing should never be aimed directly at members of the Staff, or regular members in any offensive way. This will not be tolerated, and is in direct violation of the rules.
Cursing, in moderation, is acceptable for In-Character settings and posts. However, this should be kept to minimum. Limits should be set on IC cursing, as this could still be offensive to some members. Thus, no IC posts with excessive cursing will be allowed.

No Flaming

Flaming (hostility, being intentionally offensive or insulting) is not tolerated and those who partake in flaming will be punished. Remember to keep calm and think before you type.

No Trolling/Do Not Feed the Trolls

Posts which are off-topic, extraneous, and/or aimed at simply provoking any or all members, will not be tolerated. In the event that such a thing occurs, responses that further this action will not be tolerated either. Those who partake in trolling will be punished.

No Godmodding

Godmodding while role playing is not allowed. Your character(s) are not all powerful, nor are they all knowing. They cannot do whatever they want out side of the guidelines set by the Staff and site Rules. Godmodding is not tolerated and those who partake in godmodding will be punished.

No Metagaming

Metagaming is defined as use of Out-of-Character(OOC) knowledge by a character that wouldn't have access to such knowledge in terms of In-Character (IC) play. Metagaming is not tolerated and those who partake in metagaming will be punished.

No Explicit Content

Explicit material (sexual RPing, inappropriate images or links, distasteful character histories, etc.) will not be tolerated. There is a fine line between tasteful works and distasteful works. Crude references, obscene language/slang, revealing images, and sexual RP situations will not be tolerated.
Adult thread tags are not allowed on this site. If you are considering creating a thread that has content that even remotely falls under 'Adult' content, you should first consult a member of Staff in order to find a median between your wants and the rules.
If Staff or any regular member expresses discomfort as a result of any questionable material, you will be asked to remove/edit the material immediately.

No Illegal Downloading

NWS does not condone illegal downloading and thus it's members shall make no promotion or request for illegal downloading of any software, service, merchandise, etc at anytime on the forum.

No Large Images

The use of images that are wider than 800 pixels is not tolerated. This causes stretching of posts. In the event an image wider than 800 pixels is used, in either a signature or post or any nature, the author will be asked to edit the image and/or delete it.

Notification of Leave

Certain real-life circumstance often call role players away from the site on a daily basis. Other situations may call for an absence of more than two(2) days. In the event that you will be gone for more than than two(2) full days, with no activity we ask that you post a proper notification in the "Leave Notification" board.
NWS acknowledges that one may not have forewarning of some such events and therefore, one may be unable to post a proper notification during the appropriate time. NWS will not punish or exclude such cases from Site or RP events as a result of this. We simply ask that once all of your affairs are in order, and when you feel ready to return, that you submit a post-notification either in the Leave Board or to any member of staff. Please remember that real-life circumstance should be your top priority before site circumstances and NWS fully acknowledges this.

General Character Creation Rules

No Explicit Content

Explicit material (sexual RPing, inappropriate images or links, distasteful character histories, etc.) will not be tolerated. There is a fine line between tasteful works and distasteful works. Crude references, obscene language/slang, revealing images, and sexual RP situations will not be tolerated. You can write out a point in a characters history that involves love and/or sex without being vulgar. Any instance of this rule being broken will result in the character not being approved and/or possibly deleted depending on the circumstances.

No Canon-Character references

NWS does not include canon characters in the role play in any playable manner. This Role Play takes place in the past of an Alternate Universe. As such, your Original Character may not have any relation to , nor make any reference to a canon character from the Naruto universe or any other Anime Universe.

No Over-Powered (OP) or 'Genius' Characters

For the purpose of this RP, all characters will act as the basic, everyday characters of their respective faction. In the Naruto Universe all of the Canon characters could be referred to as 'Geniuses' and here at NWS we seek to avoid the hum-drum, repetitive nature of such characters. Original Characters (OCs) are unique and do not need to be 'Geniuses' to set themselves apart.
If the staff deems any abilities, actions, or techniques as over-powered (OP) during the creation process, we reserve the right to ask for said content to be edited.

Follow the Pre-Role Play Time Line of Events

The Role Play takes place in the Warring States Era, long before the formation of Shinobi Village System. We have marked the timeline with actual years, though these do not reflect anything more than our own way of organizing a timeline.
- For events from Year 0 - 1400, please refer to the Pre-Role Play Timeline.
- For current events, please refer to the Current Role Play Timeline.

Follow the Character Template

When creating a new character for this role play, you must strictly follow the template code designated for New Characters. The template is available on the Shinobi Information board, under the Bingo Book board, with the title New Bingo Book Entries.

Use the Character Creation Guide

When creating a new character for this role play, you should adhere to the following guide in order to meet the criteria for a proper character on this site. The guide is located in the rules section, titled Character Creation Rules.

Refer to other Approved Characters

When creating a new character for this role play, you may refer to existing characters as examples of how to meet the guidelines for Character Creation in regards to NWS. The Approved Bingo Book Entries lists all Approved Characters on the site.
- You may not borrow text, ideas, concepts, nor any other material from an existing character. If you partake in this action, the unoriginal material will be removed immediately.

Stay within the Universe boundaries

This simply means that we will not allow content in characters that does not fit the world in which we are Role Playing.
Although this RP is based upon the Naruto Universe, some considerable changes have been made. We will Role Play in a world that is more akin to Feudal Japan. Technology is completely limited, more so than it was in the Manga. This Universe crosses into the realm of a Feudal Japan, and thus transportation is limited to man-powered boats, horse-drawn carts, and the very rare occurrence of steam-powered ships.
- There are no cars, planes, short-range radios, etc. Carrier birds and traditional mail are the best means of long-distance communication.
- There are two, steam-powered trains that exist on the continent. One is a cargo train that travels through four of the five big countries, the other is a passenger train that connects one side of the continent to the other. The passenger train is occupied and used by civilians only.

General Role Playing Rules

Character Deaths

Players may decide upon the death of their own characters at any time and for any reason, OOC. This death is required to be played out in RP. When role playing the character death, players should check with the staff for help deciding how best to go about it during the particular thread or plot. Players may submit character death scenarios to the staff to get ideas and approval.
Player Characters may not cause a character death for another player character without the written permission of both players. Written permission may be accepted in the following ways: OOC tags/notes in the IC thread, Private Message(PM), or OOC thread posts stating the intention and action. This most be followed by a written agreement in the same form, by both the player performing the kill and the player taking the kill. Once members of the staff see that all of the above required information has been submitted the kill will be approved.

Staff Intervention

The Staff of NWS reserves the right to issue a penalty toward a Player Character in the form of their choosing, as punishment for repeat offenses of bad RPing, misconduct in RP and out of RP, etc. To avoid such instances, please follow the rules listed here.
The Staff of NWS reserves the right to intervene in the illegal killing of another player and thus alter or delete the post or thread at their discretion, without warning to either player. Those who do not adhere to the PC killing rules set forth above will be penalized. Repeat offense will result in a site ban of one week. Further offenses will lead to a permanent ban at the Staff's discretion.

Follow Posting Order

During any role playing thread all role players are to follow the posting order as set by the author of the thread. At the author or staff's discretion, the posting order may be changed or deviated from. Unless otherwise stated by the thread author or the staff, the posting order should be followed. Certain circumstances brought up with the staff and/or in a proper Leave Thread post may alter the posting order or excuse the involved parties from posting in the correct order.
Regardless of the laxness of posting order in a thread deemed as such, all participants should allow sufficient leeway to other participants, before posting in the thread again. As stated above, certain circumstances may alter posting order and/or excuse the involved parties from posting in the correct order. It is the responsibility of all thread participants to take such circumstance into account when allowing others time to post.

Thread Tags

If any circumstance calls for an Out Of Character note in a post, the note must be placed in appropriate OOC tags. This simply means that the OOC note should be labeled and separated from any and all IC content within the post.
